Modern Versions Refuted

Background in a nutshell: "In the mid-1800's the intellectual community was startled by the discovery of two fourth-century Greek manuscripts, Codex Sinaiticus, and Codex Vaticanus. They received immediate preeminence as a result of their being several hundred years closer to the autographs than the oldest manuscripts available to the KJ translators. This acceptance became the catalyst for a special revision committee sanctioned in 1871 by the Church of England to improve the Authorized Version where needed. The two major culprits of this project were Cambridge professors, Dr. Brooke Westcott (1825-1901) and Dr. Fenton Hort (1828-1892)." - Grady

Amazingly enough, the Sinaiticus was found in a monastery in a wastebasket; the Vaticanus found in the Vatican library! Both MSS are considered Roman Catholic.

Our KJV was translated from the "Majority Text." The above are called the "Minority Text" or the Egyptian or Alexandrian Texts, which formed the basis for Westcott/Hort's critical Greek Text of 1881. Their 1881 text was collated with Weymouth's third edition and Tischendorf’s eighth edition by Eberhard Nestle in 1898 to become what is known as the Nestle's Greek New Testament--the text used in all modern translations.

Both MSS have been proven to be error ridden and do not even agree with each other. The "S" is covered with many alterations and shows the work often different correctors down through the centuries. The "V" omits many portions of Scripture vital to Christian doctrine plus Genesis 1:1 through 46:28; Psalms 106-138; Matt. 16-2,3; Romans 16:24; the Epistles; Revelations, and all in Hebrews after 9:14.

Drs. Westcott and Hort "theorized" that our Majority Text had been "corrected" sometime in the fourth century, and even made up the name of the council which did so. They did not believe in the verbal inspiration of the Scriptures, believing that the Bible should be treated as any other book. Their personal correspondence reveals, among other things, that they were admitted socialists/communists, pro-Catholic, and very liberal in doctrines. They insisted on a Unitarian being on the revision committee. Westcott taught the "Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man". They did not believe in the first three chapters of Genesis and that Moses and David were only poetic characters spoken of by Jesus.
